CompoundTek Joins EPIC as the First Commercial Foundry Member with PDK Capabilities
Paris, France – The European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) announced the membership of CompoundTek on its website, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts effective January 19, 2018.CompoundTek is the consortium’s first and only commercial silicon photonics foundry member from Asia with process development kit (PDK) capabilities. According to Carlos Lee, Director General at EPIC, less than one percent of EPIC’s members are outside of Europe and other foundries are research organizations that offer the service commercially but not their main business. The inclusion of CompoundTek completes the value chain of the consortium.
EPIC is the largest industry association that advocates the sustainable development of organizations working in the field of photonics in Europe. EPIC currently consist of around 350 members from over 30 countries.
CompoundTek was founded by its chairman and CEO, Raj Kumar, in 2017 with a team of silicon photonics experts. It has strategic collaborations with leading research institutes in Asia. CompoundTek differentiates itself as a foundry with a fast turnaround of two months for MPWs and full reticle field, seamless porting of designs from other fabs, and the ability for electro-optic and RF testing capabilities.
“This is another milestone for CompoundTek,” said Raj Kumar. “EPIC is an avenue where one could gain recognition as an industry leader. And that’s who we want to be for Europe and the world. We are able to provide best in class foundry services in silicon photonics with the fastest possible turnaround time, enabling faster time to market. They don’t have to wait for 8 to 9 months for an MPW shuttle run. We are confident of our solution and process technologies because of our solid experience in running world class fabs and our teams’ strong technical background in silicon photonics.”
This partnership with EPIC will allow CompoundTek to expand its influence in the photonics industry, grow business opportunities, and forge strong technology partnerships.
CompoundTek provides silicon photonics enhanced foundry services to convert customer designs into reality with proprietary manufacturing processes in dedicated 8” CMOS foundry. The fab supports fast turn-around full reticle field or Multi Project Wafers (MPW), and high-volume mass production requirements. For more information, please visit www.compoundtek.com.
The European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) is a not-for-profit industry association established on 10 December 2003. It promotes the sustainable development of organizations working in the field of photonics in Europe. The members encompass the entire value chain from LED lighting, photovoltaic solar energy, photonics integrated circuits, optical components, lasers, sensors, imaging, displays, projectors, optic fiber, and other photonic related technologies.
